I'm long past my college years, but I hope to contribute to this just a little to this worthy discussion. I think the answer to the question "What is a gentleman?", can be summed up in this part of Scripture. Mt 22: 37-39. "37 Jesus said to him: Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with thy whole heart and with thy whole soul and with thy whole mind. 38 This is the greatest and the first commandment. 39 And the second is like to this: Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself." - Douay-Rheims. If a man loves God first and next has love based, fundamental respect for his fellow child of God, then the rest follows. Manors and politeness are all trappings when referred to in conversation. Remember this: 2Cor 11:14 "14 And no wonder: for Satan himself transformeth himself into an angel of light." - Douay-Rheims. When these attributes have their roots in the former and not the later, therein lies the "gentleman."

My name is Blayne Bennett, I am the President of NeW at ASU- the group that hosted the event. I am thrilled to see the video posted on 4marks!! It has been excellent to read the comments that people have made about the video, and I hope to explain the event a little further:
We left it open to ASU students to interpret what a gentleman is, and there were some interesting responses, as you can see! Since it was the first year for the event, we were pushing to spread the word about the Showcase itself, and then focused on sending our message at the actual event.
Karin Agness, who is the Founder and President of Network of Enlightened Women, Inc spoke at the event. She discussed the benefits gentlemanly behavior has for both sexes, and also critiqued the feminist perspective of gentlemen. I do agree that a gentleman is more than his actions... it is in his motives as well.
The event really struck a nerve with ASU students; there were over 125 nominations for 89 different men!! We are excited to host the event again next year, and I know it will keep getting better!
Thanks again for all of the excellent comments, it is great to get outside opinions!

I agree with Jennifer B. that the radical feminist movement has done a great disservice to both men and women by making the formerly respectful and kind acts of opening a door seem disrepectful and demeaning. I think it caused a lot of men, myself included, to question whether it was right to be a gentleman and treat a woman like a lady. I finally decided that the radical feminsists were off their rocker and I wouldn't let them tell me how to be a gentleman or how to treat a lady. If a woman I met didn't appreciate that, it was her problem, not mine.
I also agree with Anthony E. and the affect that imodest dress has on our interactions with others. It is very difficult NOT to look at someone as a sexual object when her (or his for that matter) clothes leave little to the imagination. God created us as sexual creatures but the current state of worldly attire turns healthy sexual attraction into sinful lust. I have seen girls no older than 14 or 15 wearing skin tight shirts that show every contour and shorts that barely cover their cheeks and have the word "JUICY" across the butt. Are you serious!? I want to smack those girls' fathers across their heads and shake some sense into them. They literally look like tramps and it is very very sad.
