Act One, Inc. is a nonprofit organization founded by Barbara Nicolosi to train Catholics/Christians for careers in mainstream film and television. Act One offers the Writing Program for aspiring film and television writers, the Executive Program for aspiring entertainment executives, a Script Consulting Service and nationwide Weekend Seminars in addition to many other programs and services for our alumni and the public.
Stressing artistry, excellence, professionalism, and Christian spirituality, Act One prepares students to pursue careers marked by personal integrity and professional excellence, in writers rooms, on sets, and in studio and network offices. Our goal is not to produce explicitly religious entertainment, but movie and TV projects that respect and serve the global audience, combining mastery of craft with great depth and meaning.

Lecture Series
“What’s the Big Idea?"
Pixar knows it. USC knows it. Now you have a chance to learn what makes Bobette Buster one of the most sought after story experts in the world!
The Art of Cinematic Storytelling” taught by Bobette Buster is a foundational Lecture Series designed for the advanced-level writer or development executive. This course teaches several things at once: what makes a story cinematic, the process and craft of screenwriting, developing an idea, and Hollywood and International Film Business Practices.
Bobette Buster is a Hollywood development executive and faculty member at USC’s Graduate School of Cinematic Arts and La Femis in Paris. Bobette has lectured, developed script programs, and consulted with filmmakers throughout Europe, Cuba, Latin America, Japan, and at Pixar Studios. In each of the last ten years, films from her students have ranked in the Top 10 box-office, and won the top awards worldwide.
This course is six all day sessions held over three weekends:
March 21, 22; March 28, 29; April 4, 5

The Act One Program was one of the highlights of my life.”
