Folio Profile

Basic

Purpose: Friendship, Networking, Spiritual, Education
About Me: I'm a revert to Catholicism, the husband of a lovely wife for 24 years, the father of two sons, and the author of three books (with two more on the way). I'm a doctor of psychology in clinical psychology and I taught part-time at the university level for 13 years.
Activities: Most weekdays start with 4.3 mile run with running partner at 5:30 a.m. I then drag myself into work to supervise disability adjudicators by day, write books and enjoy life with my wife and sons in the evenings, lift weights once per week on Saturdays, serve as lector at our church now and then, and so on and so forth.
Interests: Thomistic, Aristotelian, and Stoic philosophy, Catholic theology, (HIT)high intensity strength training, distance running, Greek and Roman classics -- philosophy, history, and literature.

Favorites

Saints: St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Albert the Great, St. Francis of Assisi, St. Therese of Lisieux
Prayers: Pange, Lingua, Gloriosi; Adore Te Devote, Latens Deitas (St. Thomas)
Places: Rome, Assisi, home (no place like it.)
Books: The Summa Theologica, Aristotle's Nichomachean Ethics, The Discourses of Epictetus, Seneca's Letters, Marcus Aurelius's Meditations, The Imitation of Christ, anything by C.S. Lewis or G. K. Chesterton, and on and on. Fiction: One favorite is The Quiet Light by Louis de Wohl (a biography of St. Thomas Aquinas), a recent great read was Nicolas Prata's Angels in Iron. Also frightfully fond of all the incredible Wooster and Jeeves stories by P. G. Wodehouse. (Jeeves is my newest hero -- darn near the brains of an Aristotle or Aquinas in a gentleman's valet.)
Music / Groups: The symphonies and masses of Anton Bruckner, Beethoven, and Mozart -- Bach and Haydn's stuff too. I also like Gregorian chant, Celtic music, and my wife and I really enjoy Andrea Boccelli as well. I'm getting into contemporary Catholic music now -- The Priests are magnificent!
TV Shows: EWTN
Quotes: Now the love of our neighbor requires not only that we be our neighbor's well-wishers, but also his well-doers. St. Thomas Aquinas

As in the Olympic games, it is not the most beautiful and strongest who win the crown, but those who enter the combat. For from those come the victors, so it is those who act who win rightly what is noble and good in life. Aristotle

The ancients stole all of our great ideas. Mark Twain
